Michael Healy first discovered metal sculpture while studying at the University of Notre Dame. His creativity was sparked and metalwork became an outlet for his creative expression. Mikes passion for this medium has inspired him to sculpt over one hundred designs for his Door Knockers and Doorbell Ringers.
The creation of Michaels designs begins with an image. First, I see something that strikes me as beautiful. The way branches hang down from a tree, for example; thats where the Palm Tree Door Knocker came from. I try to capture the image in the metal.
Once Michael has an idea, he begins work with his small team of Rhode Island artisans to create models that are both artistic and functional. The process of designing his products to meet the specifications of manufacturing requires clever thinking and close attention to detail.
Of course, Michael is always open to design suggestions. His has worked with a wide range of themes including gardening, cooking, outdoor life, the southwest, and the seashore. Most recently, Michael has begun to develop a line of Dog Knockers representing individual breeds. Michaels wish is to create unique designs that provide a wide variety of people with a means of expression. |
