Michael Healy was born and raised on the Cape Cod seashore. Although New England has always been his home base, his father’s career in the Air Force carried Michael halfway around the globe by the age of ten. Well traveled, but with a strong sense of home and family, Michael attended the University of Notre Dame. There he studied metal sculpture and discovered a passion for design. After a brief stint in the Air Force and the birth of his four children, Michael decided to use his knowledge of and interest in metalwork to open his own foundry on the bank of the Blackstone River in Rhode Island.
After years of designing architectural bronze and restoring historic statues throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts, Michael decided to shift his focus to his own artwork. Combining his knowledge of the foundry process and his own desire to make a highly functional form of art, Michael was inspired to develop his famous line of unique Door Knockers. In his designs, we can see the recurring themes of his childhood: quahogs, lobsters, and sand dollars. We can also see his interest in travel, from the deserts of the Southwest to the mountains of Appalachia. Assisted by talented Rhode Island artisans, Michael gives a great deal of attention to the production of each and every Door Knocker and Doorbell Ringer. Overseeing the process start to finish, Michael ensures that each piece carries his signature, confirming its authenticity and quality craftsmanship. |
